Keeping Your Chihuahua “Larger than Life”

     There’s a famous Shakespeare quote that goes, “though she be but little, she is fierce,” and damn if Shakespeare didn’t write it just for Chihuahuas (though the breed wasn’t yet identified then). The breed is infamous for their tiny bodies and herculean attitudes, convinced they’re 10 feet taller than they are. But they’re also famous for their funny personalities, chock-full of charm and lovability. It’s no wonder you love your little guy (or girl) so much.

They’re sweet cuddlers, curling up best in small spots, like your lap or your purse… and they can go everywhere with you.      But Chihuahuas’ flamboyant personalities come with negatives too: they’re stubborn (feisty, you’d argue), can be alert and aggressive with people and kids (again, you’d say feisty), and have a wild, over-energetic streak (feisty). It can be cute, seeing such a small dog have so much push-back, but after a while, the cuteness wears off and you stop defending their “feisty” behavior. You need to be able to train the stubborn pups… and take them to visit your nieces… and let them off leash sometimes… But you can’t do that with the way things are going. It’d be a mess.
